U17 League

Route 1 Fuses 25 - 10 SMP Ballasalla C

Route 1 Fuses played their first match of the season on 17 October against a well trained SMP Ballasalla C. Shooters Amy Watterson, Eliana Kneen and then Ella Page had a good tall Ballasalla GK who picked up rebounds all match but holding space and timing movements better enabled Fuses to still add to the score tally.

In defence Fuses Lisa McMullin (GK) had a strong match with a lot of rebounds and Megan W (GD) picked up a lot of loose ball mid court. Their pressure on the shot kept goals to a minumum, with a max of 5 going past them in the thrid quarter.

The mid court match ups were quite even with both teams getting some nice interceptions. For Fuses Martha Patience, Emily Christian and Flo Barber picked up their share of the turnover ball, working on keeping in front of their players and they all linked well together.

U14 League

SMP Ballasalla 2 15 v Ramsey 13

On Sunday, Ramsey U14 met SMP Ballasalla 2 at the NSC. SMP Ballasalla won the toss and had the first centre pass. Ramsey had a strong quarter, initially taking the lead but despite their strong defence, SMP Ballasalla managed to pull back a few goals, so that by the end of Q1, Ramsey were leading 4-3.

At half time, Ramsey made some substitutions, bringing Lottie Stennett, Abigail Harvey and Lucy Field, all playing their first matches in the U14 league. Ramsey had the centre pass and the teams went goal for goal. At the end of Q2, Ramsey were still leading at 6-5.

In the third quarter, the addition of SMP Ballasalla shooter Caitlyn Henery proved too much for Ramsey defenders Wilma Dalugdugan and Dixie Yardley-Scott and SMP Ballasalla ended the quarter ahead of Ramsey with a lead of 11-10.

In the last quarter, Ramsey had first centre pass and Isla Gale quickly took advantage of that and pulled back some goals. However, SMP Ballasalla's shooters continued to build on their lead and the match ended 15-13 to SMP Ballasalla.

Thompson V PWC Manx Gems
Score: 32:26
It was a fast match that stayed very close right up until the last whistle.

Manx Gems settled more quickly in the first quarter, passing brilliantly from the centre to the shooters who shot really well. Thompson almost caught up by the end of the quarter with the score 9:8 to Manx Gems.

Thompson came back after the break with more confidence and took the lead by the end of the second quarter. There was great passing and shooting from both teams.

In the third quarter the score was 21:17 to Thompson. The midcourt and defence of both teams worked exceptionally hard, with the ball being intercepted many times.

The game became quite frantic in the final quarter with both teams trying desperately to win the match. Again, the midcourt for both teams worked well and despite the defenders making the shooters work hard there were some great shots on goal. The final score was 32:26 to Thompson.

Over all, it was a great match with lots of good attacking, shooting, defending and interceptions from both teams. The players of the match were Lucy Brown for Manx Gems and Georgia Harding for Thompson.
