Route 1 Connections v Thompson 1
Team absences forced Route 1 to put an young team out against the more experienced Thompson team this week.
Both had great defence, with Thompson’s Molly and Charlotte Christian proving just what a formidable duo they are. Connections were made to work hard in and around the circle to get within shooting range. Thompson’s shooters, Fern Christian and Anne-Marie Crompton were as accurate as ever despite the circle defence of Connections Jemima Shepherd and Eliana Kneen and the ever athletic Cassidy Pizzey at WD.
At half time the score was 18-11 in Thompson’s favour and despite adding speed into the Connections circle with Kaz Bridson now at GA, Thompson continued to pull away.
Centre’s Holly Burgess and Natalie Christian, for Thompson, had good games each linking well for their teams and Thompson defence did shut down a lot of shooting opportunities, especially in the third quarter. Ultimately the solidness of a team that plays together regularly won out with Thompson taking the win 46-18

Thompson 3 v Young Farmers A
On Sunday 1st December, the young Thompson Travel 3rd team took on a well-oiled, experienced Young Farmers A in a match which demonstrated Farmers strength throughout the court.
Thompson took the first centre pass but Farmers wasted no time in picking up an intercept and converting the first goal of the game. Farmers went on to score a further three goals unanswered, as Thompson struggled to find their feet. The first quarter finished 16-4 in Farmers’ favour.
Farmers continued to pile on the defensive pressure with player of the match Alice Forster (GD) and Leanne Garrett (GK) making it incredibly difficult for Thompson’s attack to get the ball in to the D, despite the valiant and relentless efforts of Izzy Hitchen (GS) and Georgia Harding (GA).
Thompson came out fighting in the third quarter as they began to find their rhythm with defence linking well with mid court to slow the momentum of Farmers and losing the quarter by just two goals.
Into the last quarter Farmers continued their dominating performance with captain Lottie Pote providing consistency throughout the court as C and linking incredibly well with shooters Nicci Cain and Sam.
The game finished 54 -21 to Farmers, but this score doesn’t necessarily reflect the hard work and effort put in by the Thompson side, many of whom are playing their first senior season.
PWC Manx Gems Emeralds v Spaniards
The experience and strength of the this Spaniards team was just too much for this young Emeralds side.
The first quarter was a slow start for Emeralds with Spaniards Kerry Kelly (C) controlling the game across the court and with the shooting partnership of Sophie Bettridge (GS) and Sara Collister (GA) they took an early lead.
7-2 going into the second quarter and with a change to the GS for Emeralds due to injury, Aailish Kelly (GA) and Misha Cooke (GS) managed to find the net winning the quarter 7-6 but still trailing 13-9 going into the third quarter.
The third quarter saw some excellent defensive work by Hannah Halsall (GD) and Tori Leece (GK) but Emeralds were unable to intercept the strong accurate passes from Spaniards who were able to utilise multiple combinations down the court to extend their lead.
The final quarter Emeralds captain Erin Whaley (WD) brought her team together showing more confidence in their play managing to score 7 to Spaniards 10.
Final score 33-18 to Spaniards. POTM Sara Collister (GA) for Spaniards.
