Route 1 Atoms v Thompson Tigers

An early start at Bemahague saw these two teams ready for action! Route 1 took control of the game at the start and had some fantastic passing into the circle, allowing the shooting partnership of Maddie Kneen and Shannon Saunders maintain a great lead. Grace Maddocks and Emily Bridson worked hard in defence to apply pressure, but after the first quarter it was 7-0 to Atoms.
In the second quarter Thomson’s Holly Roberts at GA provided some excellent movement in and out of the circle, shooting several goals but a strong defence from Route 1’s Ruby Thompson enabled Atoms to effortlessly move the ball up the court. After the first half it was 12 – 3 to Atoms.

Midcourt play in the third quarter saw some excellent interceptions from Kate Doron as C for Atoms and Hannah Spencer as WA really driving onto the ball, which allowed Atoms to take the lead a little further. Lydia Wylie, Thomson’s, demonstrated superb marking and was always readily available for the next pass. The score after the third quarter was 21 – 5 to Atoms.

The last quarter saw a few changes to the Atoms team but they maintained their pace, allowing Thomson to only score a further two goals, the final result was Route 1 Atoms 28 Thompson Tigers 7. Both teams played exceptionally well and displayed excellent sporting attitudes.
