Simcocks Green 22 - 9 Manx Gems Emeralds

The game started with both teams struggling to find their rhythm, with lots of balls going off the sidelines and uncharacteristic missed shots. Emeralds struggled to get the ball into their shooters due to the fantastic communication between the Simcocks defence of Emilia Steriopolous (GD) and Immi Beech (GK). The quarter ended 6-1 to Simcocks Green. The second quarter saw both teams start to settle into the game more with some strong gameplay through court to goal. Mikhala Harris (GA) got her eye in and was shooting very accurately to help reward the hard work of the defence and midcourt. As both teams had settled, this quarter ended with both teams scoring four goals, leaving the score 10-5 going
into the second half.

In the final half of the game Hannah Kermode (GS) and Marie Skillicorn (GK) came on to make an impact at both ends of the court for Simcocks Silver. More turnovers came for the Green’s defence and smooth transitions through court allowed them to take it to goal. Leah Prentice continued to control the midcourt in the C position. Emeralds defence weren’t to be outdone and the hard work of Diane Cregeen (GK) and Jill Festorazzi (GD) led to multiple turnovers for Emeralds, however they struggled to get the ball out of defence. Simcocks Green were leading 16-7 before the final quarter. Diane Cregeen moved from defence into attack for the last quarter and made a big impact for Emeralds, opening up the circle and allowing some brilliant feeds from Dawn Quinn at C.This positional change saw Cregeen playing opposite her own sister, Marie Skillicorn, in the shooting circle. Green’s continued to be controlled through court throughout the final quarter, seeing the game finish at 22-9. Despite an unfortunate injury to Leah Prentice in the final minutes of the game, her hard work had earned her Player of the Match.

POTM: Leah Prentice (Simcocks Green)
