Castletown Spaniards 29 - 21 Misfits A
The game started with a bang, with both teams turning over the other’s first centre pass. Spaniards’ goal shooter Z L B showed some brilliant strength and accurate shooting under the post. The defence of both teams worked tirelessly to make multiple tips and interceptions but it was Spaniards who took more to goal and leading the game 8-4 at the end of the first quarter. Quarter two saw three mother-daughter pairs take to the court for Spaniards in Sara and Bree Collister, Rachel and Callie Cubbon, and Breesha McLaughlin and Amelie Hutchinson. Sara Collister (GA) took the ball incredibly well on the baseline and sunk the shot to start the quarter. Suzanne Gray at WD for Misfits continued to make tips and support the ball out of defence and into attack, and Christie Sayle (GS) maintained her accurate shooting. Spaniards through court defence continued to put pressure on, forcing errors by pushing Misfits all into one channel. Misfits pulled the quarter back by two, making the score 14-12 to Castletown.
The second half started with some important intercepts from Spaniards defence of Rachel Cubbon (GK) and Breesha McLaughlin (GD), leading to a run of four goals. Bree Collister (WA) showed good vision and pinpoint accuracy with her feeds to the shooters. Tara Murphy
at GA for Misfits worked tirelessly to support the midcourt and work the circle well with Sayle. Misfits pulled back the difference with a run of three goals to finish the quarter.With only three goals the difference, the scoreline could have gone either way. The scorecard shows a goal for goal game but throughout the quarter both teams worked hard to turn the ball with intercepts from VIctoria Watson (GK, Misfits) and Breesha McLaughlin
(GD, Spaniards). In the final minutes, the court opened up for the Castletown Spaniards and they went on a run of five goals. Spaniards won the game 29-21.
