Judi Clark-Wilson Shield
Simcocks Silver 26 - 22 Castletown Vikings
The first game of the day started with some nervy shots and loose balls from both teams as they found their feet and settled on court. Isla Grainger (GK) took advantage of this and made multiple tips to turnover the ball for Simcocks Silver. In their attacking end Fiona Kemp calmly controlled the shooting circle with some brilliant shooter to shooter passes. The quarter ended 6-4 to Simcocks Silver. The second quarter saw Simcocks draw their lead out a little more with some strong passing down court, but Vikings didn’t make this easy for them with some strong through court defence, and Lucy Corrin at C chasing down every loose ball. The quarter ended 15-8..
In the second half Vikings came back on court with a mission. Michelle Blythe (GD) and Issy Cutts (WD) made some intercepts at crucial moments for Vikings to pull them back into the game. Sophie Bateson was reliable for them in the shooting circle, creating space and shooting accurately. The quarter ended with the difference only 2 again. 18-16 to Simcocks. In the final quarter the Shield was still to play for. Simcocks Silver made some early
interceptions to turn over Castletown centres and increase the lead to four goals. Umata Pugeva (GA) showed excellent strength through the court and in the shooting circle for Simcocks Silver and shot accurately throughout the match, helping them hold onto that four goal lead until the final whistle.
