SMP Ballasalla C vs Missfits B

SMP Ballasalla C started the game well against Missfits B but it was a relatively slow start for both teams with the first quarter ending 10-5 to SMP. The second quarter saw SMP apply more pressure with Jema Richardson getting some crucial tips at GK for SMP in the Missfits shooting circle. SMP were fluid with the turnover ball and half time score was 24-7.

Missfits continued to work hard in the second half and Imogen Peirce at WD for Missfits worked tirelessly providing support in the centre court. Lizzie Beard led the Missfits attack from GA and linked well with their GS, Honor Beard, but Lizzie was up against SMP’s Jess Ward at GD who worked relentlessly to try and keep her out of the game.

SMP continued to convert their turnover balls, their WA, Tia Wilson-Griffith and C, Janet Lawrinson fed the ball with precision into SMP’s shooting duo of Rachel Jarvis (GA) and Amelia Quinn (GS) who had their eye in and were converting most of their efforts. Missfits defence dug deep to resist the attacking efforts of SMP but the final whistle ended 49-12 to SMP. The game was an opportunity for some U17 SMP players to find their feet in Division 2 and their efforts were a credit to their club and Manx junior netball.

POTM - Jess Ward (SMP Partners Ballasalla)

Thompson Travel 6 vs Route 1 Volts

Route 1 were four goals up after the first quarter, with the score 8-4. This didn’t reflect how Thompson were playing, with their defenders making some good interceptions.

An injury in the second quarter saw Simran Jandu leave the court just before a Thompson sub arrived, meaning that they were playing with only six players for a short while. Route 1 took full advantage of the situation and increased their lead to 17-7 by half time.

A change in defence saw a better third quarter for Thompson but still trailing by 15 goals at the end of the quarter with the score being 26-11.

A special mention for Thompson’s Mika Chan who played her first game with the seniors. She excelled at Centre in the first half of the match, keeping up with a speedy Millie-Jo Purves before she dropped back to GD in the final quarter. Route 1’s GA, Eliana Kneen was on form and all her goals were hitting home.

Sarah Kewley, Thompson GS, had her work cut out being marked by a tall Sarah Morgan but scored some great goals from the edge of the circle. In the final minutes of the game Thompson attackers managed to work wonders to grab a point and were able to finish the match 18-33.

POTM - Katie Roberts (Route 1)
