Browne Craine Toomraider v Thompson 1

It is always a tight match between Toomraiders and Thompson 1 and both teams came onto court on Sunday eager to win. It was Thompson who got off to a strong start, quickly taking the lead with some great play down the court and into their shooters Annemarie Crompton (GS) and Fern Christian (GA) who fired in some brilliant goals.

The pressure was on at the opposite end of the court with Thompson’s defence making it very difficult for Toomraiders shooters and the score at the end of the first quarter was 9-2 to Thompson.

Toomraiders did not let this knock their confidence and came out fighting during the second quarter and scored a number of goals in quick succession, however their rhythm was interrupted by some fantastic interceptions by Nan Williams (Centre) which enabled Thompson to maintain their lead. The score at the end of this quarter was 11-20

Toomraiders continued to put up a tough fight in the third and fourth quarter and with some super play by their mid court defence Zoe Shimmin (GD) and Sarah Jones (WD) carrying the ball down the court, Toomraiders were able to play the ball around the circle creating gaps in Thompson’s defence. Toomraiders gradually began closing the goal difference however it was not enough and Thompson won the game 39-29.
