Thompson Cats 7-16 Manx Gems Diamonds
Diamonds were first on the score sheet however, Cats were quick to respond with some swift interceptions and equalled the score. The Diamonds defenders, Jess Falconer and Katie Halsall, made it difficult for the Cats shooters to get near the post. However, some good passing allowed the Cats to even the score again. Diamonds mid court players were marking well and their slick passing found the shooters under the post.
The second quarter saw the teams start evenly on 3 goals apiece. Diamonds scored quickly with accurate shooting from GA, Sarah Bridson and a quick responding goal from Poppy Gerrard for the Cats. Diamonds mid court worked hard to get the ball to their shooters who capitalised on this to end the first half up 7 goals to 4.
Good defence from both teams at the start of the third quarter made it a while before either team found the net. Two goals in succession for the Cats was responded to by two goals in succession for Diamonds and the third quarter ended 11-7 in favour of Diamonds.
The last quarter saw both teams come out fighting with centres Abigail Campbell (Diamonds) and Leah Prentice (Cats) evenly matched resulting in interceptions for both sides. Diamonds scored four goals in a row with no goals in reply from Cats despite some valiant efforts to the end.
Big thank you to the Gems beginner umpires who controlled the match with great aplomb.
